"Left me Falling Love and Crying - Great Listen!"

Story
Let me start with the narrator which can be a deciding factor to any book that I listen to. It can decide whether or not I will listen to a book from start to finish in a few days or over a lengthy time frame or they are not doing the story justice and I stop listening. The narrator Shiromi Arserio did the book justice. Her even tone voice and the way the story leaves you wondering what will happen next was right on the mark.

Now the story itself. I feel in love with the 3 main characters. The author keeps the listener or reader wanting to learn more about the main character Abby. As the book opens up you think why this young teen throwing away her college career with bad academics. Who is this Robbie? And why are her parents the way they are!

Abby leaves very subtle hints about a relationship with her boyfriend Robbie. What has happen to what seemingly seems to be a bad relationship. However, as the book moves forward keeping the listener/reader guessing till her day in Sydney, Australia with the next main character, Sage. She reveals the reason behind her relationship with Robbie.

Sage as the character meets Abby for the first time. You find yourself falling for him right from the start. How the flushing Abby feelings are confused since she is there in Australia to work on an organic farm to clear her head (okay run away) from her feelings for Robbie. She wanted the solitude to try and see if she could come to terms with the relationship. As she writes letters to Robbie and putting them in these purple envelopes will she send them or are they part of something else?

The next character Susan, the owner of the organic farm. She is a good grounding character between Sage and Abby. Her young and good advice leaves Abby thinking she is butting in to get her and Sage together. But, as the story winds down becomes the friend that Abby never thought she could have. Learning the backstory to Susan's life on the farm.

So as to not spoil the listen/read this book actually had me welling up with my own emotions of losing a love one. This book really caught me off guard (in a good way)and at the end of the listen hoping for more of Sage and Abby coming in Book 2. At least I hope they are part of the next book. But, leaving the reader with the feeling there is always a second chance in life's loves.

My Review from Audible and other sites

"If you enjoyed Divergent you'll love BOTANICAST"
Overall
Performance
Story
I always start my reviews by reviewing the narrator. Since they are the voice that makes or breaks a performance of the book! Will it want to make you want to go back and read the book! Meghan Kelly as in other books I have listen to her narrate excels in a flawless transition from one character to the next. Maintaining that difference or mood of the character as they journey thru this book by Tam Linsey. I do hope that she is brought back for any future sequels. There is nothing more disappointing when authors use another voice in a series. She really brings to life and moods of my favorite character Dr Tula Macoby.

So let me continue with the characters without giving many spoilers! Dr. Tula Macoby coming from a society called the Haldanians, that believes can help selected others from the bio-engineered weeds that wiped out plant life 400 years earlier making all plants poison. Tula, a counselor assigned to those that are converted with photosynthetics to adjust to their new lifestyle. A society/scientist that believes they are the saviors of sorts in converting the cannibals that also roam the Earth. They also decide who lives or dies if their capturers do not fit the profile of converting to a plant society. Believing that her way of life will save them. That is until she meets Levi Kraybill whom she believes in the beginning is part of a captured cannibal family. Only to find out he is from another society called the The Old Order. Feeling that her people may not have all the answers. With him as the story unfolds throughout she learns the truth behind her own past! Trying to understand why her feelings are so passionate for someone of a different culture and to wrong yet feels so right at the same time.

Tam Linsey takes and draws you into the passion! Into the uncertainty! Into the truth that maybe bought her and Levi together are not ready to face about each other!

Levi Kraybill is from a society that believes what Tula's kind are doing is an abomination. They are a peaceful farming community. Believing that God has sent them down the rules to believes are they the only way of life!

After Tula assist Levi to escape and now making them both outlaws on the run from the Haldandians! Tula learns from him the survival tactics as they travel back to his society without being captured by the cannibals or killed by the Burners. Learning along the way that Levi was on the search for a cure for his son. Only to be saved/captured by what they thought is a fourth society, Fossilites. Which they did not know existed. Only to find out that all those Tula thought were killed are actually used for experiments of a different kind for the search for immortality. Will Tula make the decision to stay with them if they are willing to give Levi the cure they said they had for his son? Will his clan let him back? Since leaving against the Old Orders rules shunned Levi!

They do escape and head for Levi's clan with 2 of the ones Tula thought were killed by her people. When they get back to Levi's home. Are they all left to come within the Old Order's protective field? What does Tula learn about herself? Will they accept her and the other 2 Haldadians? What becomes of Levi's son?

Leaving some of these unanswered will peak a curiosity that you will not be sorry to learn as the book whines down. There is not a real cliffhanger leaving this book up in the air till part 2. It can stand as a stand alone read/listen to. Made me wish that I could move to the next book now! I really was pleasantly surprised with this story after listening to and reading other post apocalypse novels. This is certainly a well thought out plot. Totally different! The story can definitely take itself in any direction for future parts. I would like to see the following part have that back story of how the weeds took over the other plants. Seeing it build around Levi and/or Tula family ancestors. This 10 hr plus listen really felt so much longer. Ready for a detail yet full story made me want to sit and listen right thru in a day or 2.

TUESDAY TWEET - BEAUTIFUL RUINS By Jess Walter

TUESDAY TWEET
Performed by Edoardo Ballerini
12 hrs 53 mins
Literary Fiction
6596 ratings for a 3.9 stars

Book Blurb from Audible

Publisher's Summary

Audie Award Nominee, Fiction and Best Solo Narration, 2013
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying.
And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.
What unfolds is a dazzling, yet deeply human, roller coaster of a novel, spanning 50 years and nearly as many lives. From the lavish set of Cleopatra to the shabby revelry of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Walter introduces us to the tangled lives of a dozen unforgettable characters: the starstruck Italian innkeeper and his long-lost love; the heroically preserved producer who once brought them together and his idealistic young assistant; the army veteran turned fledgling novelist, and the rakish Richard Burton himself, whose appetites set the whole story in motion - along with the husbands and wives, lovers and dreamers, superstars and losers, who populate their world in the decades that follow.
Gloriously inventive, constantly surprising, Beautiful Ruins is a story of flawed yet fascinating people, navigating the rocky shores of their lives while clinging to their improbable dreams.

Where does Beautiful Ruins rank among all the audio books you’ve listened to so far?
It is right there in the top 10 of the romantic books I have listen to! I was so drawn in that I was wishing for each chapter to see what or where in time the author was taking the story.

What did you like best about this story?
I was hestitant that it was a male narrator but 2 thumbs up. He did an amazing job. The story flow well transitions from the past to the future. I could place myself in these eras quite well.

Which scene was your favorite?
When Pascale heads to Rome to find answers and comes across more than he plans.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I could yes! But, it was a pleasure just being able to listen it to and from my travels.

Additional thoughts about this book. This was a beautifully performed story. All I keep hearing was how this little novel was taking the literary world by storm. A rising star and as you can see just by the review count on Audible it certainly is. If you have not taken the time to listen to this book. Then, I suggest that you add it to your summer listening/reading list! You will find yourself wanting to fall in love again. It still amazes me that this was not made into a movie! Seen that it was in the pre-production. I think they need to get off the buns and get it done and out there!

My review from Audible and various sites

The Roche Hotel: Season One by Mysti Parker. Performed by Angie Hickman. 1 hour 19 minutes.

Jane Seymour is so tired of life – she is so tired of hearing.  “You have the same name as the actress?” Or “You are the same name of one of Henry the eight’s wives.” “Oh, the one that he cut the head off?” “No, that was the other one,” Jane tells them abruptly!  Jane ends up divorcing her husband over a wanabee actress thou! Now she needs to get a job to support herself and ends up as a night clerk at the Roche Hotel.

Mysti Parker weaves a tale of amusement that only can only bring a smile of amusement to your face. I found this short yet very amusing quirky story of how a couple who took over a hotel from the former owner Mrs. Roche who stays on as a maid. Jane meets on her first night at the end of the shift the donut man Henry. Pretty ironic huh? Henry is already smitten by her and ask her for coffee. The day clerk is already convenience he is gay. Jane of course, does not let on that he has already given her his number. As the days go on they do build up their friendship.

The performance that Angie Hickman portrays of each of the characters well is great! Especially, Mrs. Roche. Quite comical one I might add. She has Jane in that “I can’t believe this is happening to me again! Scenario Again!” When a guest body is discovered dead in a room and turns up to be a famous person. Then a guest encounters a ghost. Is the ghost? The ghost of the recently deceased? Oh fun! Then guest calling wanting to book in the room of the ghost! Really? Jane can’t believe the way this job has turned her life around. See how it has done that!

All jammed in less than a 1 ½ hrs. This is not really a standalone. It does leave you wanting for more. So if you want an end don’t listen. If you want to wait for more than dive in! For the author does mention that there is future parts. So I do look forward to them and reviewing them.

This was provided to me by the author for an honest review and my thoughts above are solely mine and no way effected by others. Please like and leave your comments below. Love to hear from you.

My Review from Audible

This is an extremely cute and amusing audio listen of the book! Because I am a huge fan of audio books and how narrators portrays them. This is the way for the young to the young at heart to listen to this story. This book had me laughing out loud from time to time and smiling all the way thru! Why you ask?

Well, first off this has to be one of the cleverest plots that I have heard in young children's book. Miss Mae has put together in this short 2 hrs and 19 mins of story in such a way you can not but listen from start to finish! The characters each have their own personalities. Starting the story out as a young girl playing hide and seek with her boy cousins decides a good hiding spot is this large cardboard box. Unknowing to her the boys have a plan and tape her up in the box to ship her off the to Himalayans. However, the postman being drunk sent her off to an entirely different place, No Particular Place fill with the tropics and all those wonderful animals.

One day Sir O. Yuri Wiseguy-eh comes to the island and sees the young girl now all grown up. He invites her to come to Gum Drop Island. However, every time they say those 3 words - good gracious - music plays. Heading to Gum Drop Island The Narrator (the girl on the island) meets a bevy cast of characters. Each one with their own quirks and cute personalities.

Finding themselves going to Moldy Corners to where all the candy is grown and shipped all over the world. Wondering why a shortage?. Now each time someone ask where they are from or says "Gum Drop Island" the music gets louder and louder. The narrator and all the characters set themselves on a mission to find how they can bring sun back to Moldy Corners to get rid of the mold and get the trees growing candy again and stop that darn awful music. (If it was me producing this audio since the narrator did such an awesome job. I would have added in that music since I have heard music throughout other books - Just saying) Will they find and solve this annoying music? How are the two related?

The Narrator the one actually reading the story, but in the book itself calls herself The Narrator since she has no name. Even though the narration is done by Owen McCuen he entertainingly does every characters voice from the Narrator to Sir O. Yuri Wiseguy-eh to well-known journalist I.B. Nosey. Long ride in the car - pop this in for the kids and they will be laughing all the way! But, make sure that ride is over 2 hrs or you will be sitting in the car till it is done.

The cover is very inviting and makes you wonder if it is I.B. Nosey is the one telling the story. Great job by the author and the narrator! Really can't wait to hear another adventure when it come out!
